The Written Collective

$22.00

Hi friends! I’m Sam, the founder of Propagate Studio. You may have seen our recent project, The Sketchbook Collective, where we are selling blank sketchbooks and having folks fill them and return them to our library to be on view for the public. Well, we had a massive donations of some beautiful lined and bound journals/notebooks and it hit me! Let’s do this for people who like to write!

Now, you don’t have to be a “writer” just like you don’t have to be an “artist” to participate in this project. You can write poetry, like to interview people, like writing about your day and dreams, or have a whole play in your head that you are wanting to share. Write whatever you want in these journals and then we will house them at Propagate Studio for people to see, admire and read. You can write everything on the computer then print and glue your pages into the journal, hand write everything (try your best to write neatly so it can be read!) or a little bit of both! These are your pages to do what you want with. You own the writings in them, Propagate does not own anything on the pages. This is part of a free public art library we will house and is a really fun way to help connect our community and be inspired by each other!

here are some things about this project that are important!

  • anyone can be part of this project. (yes even if you don’t think you are a writer)

  • the books are 7×10 in size with 95 lined pages

You do not have to be local to participate in this project! We can mail your journal to you and you can mail it back when you are done!

How it works:

Step 1: buy a journal from us for $22 by June 30th

Step 2: Write! Fill your journal with your writings. These can be short stories, poems, memoirs, the start of your novel, plays, journaling, interviews, or brain dump!

Step 3: return your journal by September 30th and come see them all in person at our reception October 4th

Step 4: come view and read the journals in our library at the studio once we have the collection!

Some tips when you are working on your journal:

  • work intuitively! Don’t overthink the blank page. If it helps you, start with a warm up page that you start writing based on a prompt and see where that takes you

  • don’t be afraid to think outside the box, the journal can be a mix of all different kinds of writings plus you don’t have to use every page!

  • set up artist dates with yourself and time on your schedule to work on your journal. You have all summer but time flies!

  • take pictures of your process and pictures of your final piece

  • pick a theme, either one of ours or one of your own!

    • day in the life

    • beauty in the ordinary

    • weird and wonderful

  • have fun!

(If you are located outside of the country please email me to place your order propagatestudionj@gmail.com)

Welcome to the Written Collective!

(books need to be covered with something as they have a stamp embossed on the front from the company that donated them. We will have a book covering day at the studio or you can use your own materials to make your cover however you’d like!
